The Guardians by John Grisham

You can feel reality creeping in when you read THE GUARDIANS by John Grisham. Reality is the number of prison inmates who are innocent.

Without saying so, Grisham interweaves the facts and devastating results of innocence projects from across the country. Quinn works for the innocence Project with a threadbare budget. He drives a beater car all over the South to work on cases where the inmates’ innocence is virtually certain. While his track record is commendable, he is an unwelcome intrusion for the authorities, with the risk that the real killer could intervene to stop the process.

I didn’t fully appreciate the risk taken by Innocence Project advocates, but Grisham blends stark reality into a gripping story.
